Another pink slip at City Hall

By Penticton Herald staff  Wednesday, November 3, 2010
The man in charge of the City of Penticton‘s website has been given the pink slip.  Annette Antoniak, the city‘s chief administrative officer, confirmed during media questioning at the close of Monday night‘s council meeting that the contract for the city‘s webmaster has been terminated. He will not be replaced.  Antoniak said the department manager and city treasurer went through the various services being provided, and it was deemed the webmaster‘s role could be handled by other staff in the information  technology (IT) department.  The move follows the layoff of the city‘s director of parks and recreation on Oct. 19. However, Antoniak said this was not a decision made by council, nor was it connected to the recently released core services review.  “This was not to do with the core review. This was a decision that was made by the IT manager (in consultation with the chief financial officer),” she said.  No other city workers under contract have been laid off, she added.  Council faces a $1.7-million budget shortfall next year, with another $1 million expected in 2012. The preliminary 2011 budget is to be presented Dec. 6.
