Campbell had 84% support, party says

Tom Fletcher - BC Local NewsPublished: November 03, 2010 10:00 PM Salmon Arm Observer:
The B.C. Liberal Party has postponed its convention, set to begin Nov. 19 in Penticton, and released the results of a membership vote that had been expected to be made public at the convention.
The party issued the following statement Wednesday evening:

The BC Liberal Party will reschedule its Biennial Party Convention scheduled for Penticton on November 19th and 20th until such time as a Leadership Convention can be called, BC Liberal Party President Mickey Patryluk said today.
-----
In the months leading up to the November Convention, the BC Liberal Party held local delegate selection meetings allowing all party members to both select attendees to the Convention, as well as cast a Leadership Endorsement Ballot on the leadership of Premier Gordon Campbell. The Endorsement Ballots were counted on October 8th with an Ernst & Young Auditor, the Party Secretary, the Party Comptroller, a local riding president and member of the Party Provincial Council, and other staff in attendance. Premier Gordon Campbell received an endorsement of 84% of party members.

Interesting. And the fact that successors are reluctant to come forward would seem to indicate that Gordo may let his name stand, depending on what happens in the ensuing months.
I suspect we will see a lot of good-will and fluff out of his office in this period, as he attempts to build on his legacy and builds his public approval back prior to the leadership convention.

Some of those leadership ballots were cast at a Liberal fund-raising BBQ held at Fletcher's boss David Black's mansion.

It goes to prove how out of touch the party members are when it comes to understanding the feelings of the general public if 84% of them thought Campbell should remain leader.
