Candidate nominations for the Okanagan-Shuswap Federal Green Party are being accepted again. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Green Party candidate Erik Bjorgan tendered his resignation early November. CEO for the local riding association, Greig Crockett, told reporters that “Erik was an excellent man in the job. He has a pastor’s compassion for people. He also understands the economic opportunities for Canadians in a post petroleum world moving to the green economy. It’s a real loss to the party and to voters in this riding.” Huguette Allen, former three-time Green Party candidate, praised Bjorgan’s public speaking. “He’s a wonderful orator. He inspires confidence that there are solutions to local issues and global problems. He was a great advocate for the new wave of ‘green’ thinking that is taking place in Europe and Asia but is being ignored by our Canadian government.” Green Party members are disappointed at this development. Bjorgan represented the party well during the summer attending parades and festivals. “I believe the Green Party is on the right track. I regret having to step aside for now but this provides an opportunity for someone else to vigorously campaign for a new vision in government”, he said. Nominations for a federal Green Party candidate are now being sought. For information, contact info@okshuswapgreens.ca or 250-260-5877.
