A 49-year-old Winfield area man has lost his driving privileges for a week after being caught driving 130km/hr in a 50km/hr zone. Vernon RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says plainclothes officers observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Kal Lake Road at an excessive rate of speed about 8:30 Saturday morning. Molendyk says the vehicle also failed to stop at a stop sign at Kal Lake Road and Highway 6. He says the vehicle eventually stopped at Coldstream Ranch. The driver produced a valid driver's licence and admitted to police he had been speeding. "The man was advised that he has 80km/hr over the clearly posted limit and that he failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 6," says Molendyk. "The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and failure to stop at a stop sign." Molendyk says the vehicle was also towed for a seven-day impound under the new excessive speeding legislation."
