As the debate wages on about the future of parks and rec service in Greater Vernon, one local politician is introducing more food for thought. Coldstream mayor Jim Garlick says the four partners should consider putting all the park facilities, into the regional district's title. He tells KISS FM, "If we really believe in a sub regional parks system, we would put all our lands and facilities into the regional district and truly treat it as a sub regional function." Garlick says that would eliminate situations, for example, where Marshall Field is not in the parks inventory, or having Creekside Park in Coldstream's title. A recent two hour special meeting involving all 16 Greater Vernon politicians called by Vernon to discuss the parks function failed to find a consensus, and it's not known what the next step may be. The current stalemate between the area partners has gone on for many months, and racked up close to $50,000 in consultant fees.
