An expansion at Lake City Casino will nearly triple its liquor licence capacity, from 600 to 1,683 persons. City council is expected Jan. 11 to endorse the company‘s application for a revision to its liquor licence for its premises inside the Delta Grand hotel. "The application is supported as the proposal is not anticipated to have significant impact on the surrounding area," reads part of a report to council by Luke Turri, the city‘s land use planner. "The majority of increased noise would be limited to the interior of the casino," Turri says. "The proposed smoking area balconies are not located near current or future residential areas, and any noise increase from these areas being licensed would be incremental."Work is underway on a 9,000-square foot expansion of the casino, which will see the addition of hundreds of new slot machines and other electronic gaming devices, card tables, and a new restaurant and lounge. As well as an expansion to its occupancy limit, Lake City hopes to win permission from the provincial Liquor Control and Licensing Branch to sell alcohol until 2 a.m daily. Currently, the casino can serve liquor until 2 a.m only on Friday and Saturday between June and October.
