Casino Workers Strike Deal

Slot machinesWorkers at four Lake City Casinos outlets in the Okanagan and Kamloops have a tentative new contract.  Brian Gardiner from the BC Government Service and Employees Union says its a three year deal reached after a couple of weeks of "tough" bargaining.  "It includes some general wage increases which on average works out to around two percent a year, over the three years."  He says it also includes improved language on job postings, overtime, recall and layoffs.  Gardiner says the union is recommending approval as ratification votes for the 370 employees --including 80 in Vernon---begin next week."All of the members will be given a package explaining the details and then they will vote on whether they want to support the agreement or not." The workers have been without a deal since August. If approved, the contract would run until September 4, 2013.
