The City of Vernon is named in a recent report that suggests many municipalities are spending far beyond their means. The Canadian Federation of Business report states that, from the years 2000 to 2008, City spending exceeded population growth by about 150 percent. Barry Beardsell, who was on council during those years, blames that on a major hike one year when Sean Harvey was still mayor. He says it was a necessary hike to address an imbalance in services. Beardsell says the increase in City staff two years ago, increased employee benefits and borrowing plans are unsustainable. The City of Penticton was the only Okanagan city which fared worse in terms of spending -- according to the report.

Doesn't anyone ever tire of blaming Sean Harvey?
Meanwhile, Wayne Lippert has been the Mayor of Vernon since 2005.
Page 84 of the City of Vernon's Annual Report shows that as the City's population grew 7.6% from 2005 to 2009, the City's workforce grew 41.5%.
How's that for a fact?
