An alert newspaper delivery man and quick response by the Coldstream Fire Department helped save a house Sunday. Shortly before 4 a.m. the Coldstream Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the 9300 block of Giles Drive. The delivery man spotted the blaze on his route, alerted the two occupants of the home and called the fire department. "There was a pickup truck heavily involved, and it was licking at the carport and breaking into the soffit when we arrived," says Coldstream Fire Chief Leo Lecavalier. "It could have been really ugly," says Lecavalier, noting that the close proximity of the fire hall resulted in a speedy response time. He says the fire appears to have started near the block heater of the vehicle. Damage to the home is estimated to be under $1,000.
An investigator will be examining the scene Monday.
