A growing company's plan for a new headquarters in Vernon, will be before city council Monday. Kal Tire is looking to build an 80-thousand square foot head office at 1540 Kal Lake Road, near their current service outlet, but first needs rezoning approval, from service commercial, to business park. The company would also need a variance to permit a 362 vehicle parking lot, plus a new traffic light would be needed at Kal and Pottery Roads. Thier head office is currently on 48th Avenue. Kal Tire was started by Tom Foord in Vernon in 1953, and has grown to over 220 outlets-- and 4-thousand employees-- across Canada. Meantime, it's looking like a long day for Vernon city council members who hold their final regular meetings of this year, Monday. Among the issues will be debating support for the proposed Okanagan College Community Sports Facility in Coldstream. Several council members have expressed support for the 7.8 million dollar plan, but Mayor Wayne Lippert has had some concerns about the lease and site. Council will also be asked to set January 13th as the first full day special meeting o discuss the 2011 budget. Council will be trying to hold the line on any tax hikes after this year's 1.9 percent hike.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
