No Negotiations Scheduled for Firefighter Talks - Firefighters Waiting for Chief

Vernon firefighters have been without a contract for almost a year and it doesn't appear negotiations with the City will start any time soon. Worker representative Brent Bond says they had been about to start talks when outgoing fire chief Jeff Carlisle announced his resignation. Bond says the 30 members of Local 1517 will wait for the appointment of a new fire chief in 2011 before talks begin. Any settlement will be added to next year's City budget figures. Bond would not disclose what the firefighters are seeking from a new contract.

The Vernon Firefighters are not without a contract.

BC Labor legislation stipulates that all wages and benefits continue until such time as any new rates and benefits are agreed to.

If you accept this article as written one would have to assume that the firefighters are working for nothing, which is not the case.

Wow Robert, are you kidding me?? no kidding, the current contract is expired and anyone who has ever negotiated a "collective agreement" knows that there is legislation that requires BOTH parties of any organization (union and employer) to "bargain in good faith!!! You should run for a NORD director, sounds like you would fit right in!!
