Senior busted at grow op, gun found

A senior is in trouble with the law after her grow op was busted last month. On November 30, members of the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP and the Southeast District Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit joined together to execute a search warrant in the 8000 block of Postill Drive in Coldstream. A search conducted on the residence located a three stage ongoing marijuana grow operation containing a total of 492 plants. RCMP Spokesperson Gord Molendyk says a loaded 9mm handgun and approximately 2 pounds of dried marijuana bud were also found at the residence. "The occupant of the house, a 68-year-old woman was arrested as she was driving back to her residence," says Molendyk. Molendyk says it is very unusual for seniors -- especially women -- to be involved in the production of marijuana. The woman, who has no criminal record, will be in court in February 2011. She will face production of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and weapons charges.
