Vernon residents have a new way to dispute bylaw violations starting Feburary 1st.
The city has passed a new bylaw to join eight other valley communities in an adjudication process. It will be managed by Kelowna bylaw staff and is designed to streamline the process, making it fair and cost effective. People with a beef about a bylaw ticket can talk with a screening officer, or go through a provincially-appointed adjudicator. Currently, the matter has to be taken to provincial court. Officials estimate it could cut the time for an appeal from six months, to six weeks.
