Teen Facility Gets Government LIft

Vernon's Teen Junction is in line to get some help from local government.  The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee at a special budget meeting Thursday, has given preliminary approval to add the agency into its scope of services.  The Junction is seeking $56,000 this year. Chairman Wayne Lippert  says the Junction would get funding to help it serve its clients.  "We're showing there's value to people, and value to young people throughout the region."  The Junction provides at-risk 14 to 18 year olds with a safe substance free environment to connect with friends and staff.  Meantime, more discussion, but still no firm numbers on the higher new water fees Greater Vernon residents will be facing this year.  Chairman Wayne Lippert says the directors discussed the rates at a special meeting yesterday.  "They are still all over the place because we're trying to determine where everything should be, trying to pay for stuff, and make sure the rates are as reasonable as they can be for people."  The initial proposal from staff had the rates rising between 23 and 103 percent, depending on usage.  The committee members will have another meeting on the issue next Wednesday.
