Anti Prison Rally

The concept of a prison in Lumby looks like it will result in another big turnout for a meeting. Hundreds attended a public input session last June, and there could be that many Monday night for a Lumby council meeting.  Paul Fisher, from a citizens group opposed to the idea, says they will hold a rally starting at 6 that night.  "We want to just be there in person to show in very clear terms how many people are absolutely opposed to this idea of the institution coming to Lumby, and forever changing Lumby in a negative way."  After the rally, Fisher will make a presentation to council calling for the idea to be dropped, without even holding a referendum or phone survey. He says the group will be respectful to council.  "We not there to cause fights or react in any way to any taunting or anything like that. We're going to be calm and we'll be there in huge numbers to demonstrate our opposition to this plan." Lumby council has said it's interested in locating a correctional facility in the village as a way of boosting the economy.  The province is looking to build a 360 cell facility somewhere in the Okanagan by 2015.
