Proposed pay hikes for North Okanagan Regional District directors have been put on the shelf, for now.
Chair Herman Halvorson says they've received the recommendations from a citizens committee, but haven't endorsed them. He says they will be discussed at a later time, but Halvorson says he's already figured out what to do if he gets a raise. "If I were to run again and be elected again, whatever the raise would be, I would personally donate mine to charity." The new rates--if approved--wouldn't take effect until after the municipal elections this November. The recommendations are for directors to get a two percent hike, meeting fees to go up the same, and the chair and vice chair to get five percent more. The three person citizens committee found the current pay for directors is currently 'average' compared to ten other regional districts, and they say the increases would improve it to 'above average.'
