Off To Europe, But Not Exactly A Vacation - Opportunity to attract European investment and skilled labour

Vernon's Economic Development Officer is off to Europe today for a ten day whirl wind trip to drum up business at trade shows.   Kevin Poole will join the Central Okanagan delegation with stops in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.   Poole says even though this is his first year the Vernon area already has several  success stories.  Poole says its a real opportunity to attract European investment and skilled labour.  He says the 122-million dollar Sparkling Hill Resort is one of the biggest successes, in terms of the work done by the Provincial nominee program.  Poole says the program has seen 600-million dollars worth of investments in BC from 2002 to 2009.

Nice work if you can get it.

Funny, yesterday I noticed the library has the magazine Der Spiegel, my companion told me there were a couple of other German mags. There must be a significant population of Germans and other Europeans who are residents and business people in the North Okanagan.

Were any of our European community consulted, perhaps a delegate from the resident European business community with local knowledge of the European business community ought to have been sent?

His trip is paid for by the Okanagan Valley Economic Development Society not the City. He is attending at their request. Also, Kevin is a highly skilled Economic Development Officer and the President of the Economic Development Association of British Columbia (EDABC). I believe we would be hard pressed to send a better person to work on behalf of economic development in Vernon.
