At about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday the Emergency Program was alerted to a broken sewer line in the area of Marshals fields and Cummings Road in Vernon. City of Vernon Utilities Crews responded immediately and contained the majority of the spill. A small amount was able to escape over the dam that was put in place and managed to flow into Vernon Creek. The Ministry of the Environment and Interior Health and Emergency Management BC were notified immediately and they also responded to the area. At the time of this release the City of Vernon Utilities crews will continue to work through the night and monitor this spill. They want the residents of the area to know that their toilets and all other sewer lines remain working. They are asking everyone to please stay out of the area while they work on the cleanup. Interior Health advised there is no threat to any of the public or private drinking water in the area. Should any further updates be required they will be released after 8:30 a.m. Thursday from Vernon Fire Rescue Services
