The District of Summerland is now accepting resident's feedback on the possibility of being home to a corrections facility. Mayor Janice Perrino says there were several reasons why they didn't get involved earlier. "The first letter that we got said that this needed to support the Kelowna and Vernon court houses, so of course we immediately took ourselves out. They also said that the site had to be 20 acres and had to be fully serviced. We since have heard that the Penticton court house is also part of the mandate, so they were wrong in saying that. And even if a site was not serviced, they would consider helping us to service it," says Perrino. Perrino wants residents to forward the comments to the District office. "It's still a long long ways off, but just to let the public know: please we do want your opinions on the survey." Perrino says council has unanimously agreed to support a facility of this type within their region.
The survey is found online at www.summerland.ca
