Conservative Party Says Liberal ``Coalition'' Dead In BC - Vernon riding association seeks new members

The president of the BC Conservatives says close to 50 new members have joined the party since Christy Clark's Liberal leadership victory. He says within a few hours of Clark's win, at least ten new members joined. ``Several of them, if not all, indicating that they were previously members of the Liberal Party,'' McGrath says. He can't say if all of the 50 who've joined are former Liberal Party members. The Conservatives continue to organize riding associations across the province. McGrath says around 40 have been set up, just under half the number necessary to run in every riding. He expects all will be formed by the fall. No leadership candidates have emerged yet for the Conservatives who have set a May 28th selection date but McGrath isn't worried. ``The campaign just started last week and concludes at the end of this month,'' says McGrath. ``I expect in the next couple of weeks there'll be some major announcements made.'' McGrath refused to comment on reports that Delta-Richmond East MP John Cummins had been asked to run for leader.  Meanwhile, the provincial Conservatives in Vernon are seeking new members. Local president Ian Tribes says an information session for the public will be held at the Schubert Centre on March 24th at 6:30 pm.
