Members of the Agricultural Land Commission have had a first hand look at the site of a proposed sports complex by the Vernon campus of Okanagan College. The District of Coldstream's director of development services, Craig Broderick, says the panel members had lots of questions. "They were asking about the demand for the recreational facility, what other sites were looked at regionally, where the funding is going to come from to construct the project." Broderick says there were no immediate answers as the commission is on a swing through the valley, and they gave no indication when they will rule on the application. Coldstream's after permission to have the facility, a non farm use, on ten acres of ALR land. If the commission gives its approval, a referendum will be held in Greater Vernon. The 7. 8 million dollar proposal would include an Olympic size running track and playing field.
No date has been set for a referendum, but if it's approved, the average Greater Vernon homeowner would have to pay an extra 17 dollars a year, for 20 years, to cover the cost.
