Council Looks Into VJH Issues

Vernon council will be finding out more about the future plans for Vernon Jubilee Hospital.  The elected reps will invite members of the hospital's administration and staff to a future meeting to talk about the facilities, and if new beds may be added on the two shelled-in floors.  Mayor Wayne Lippert  says they need a rundown on the whole complex.  "We've got not just two shelled-in floors, we've got five other ones that are replacing one (building), so I think we have a huge opportunity to look at the whole situation up there now that the tower is going to be opened."  Meantime, councillor Bob Spiers is urging residents to sign up for the V-J-H purple ribbon campaign on social networking sites.  It aims to get more beds and staff on the two empty floors, to help ease overcrowding and code purples.  "To try and rally the public to put some pressure on the elected officials to get those two floors manned, so it's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned."  The organizers are asking people to wear purple ribbons to protest continued Code Purple at VJH where admitted patients exceed hospital.  Meantime, the VJH Tower of Care campaign will move even closer to its 7 million dollar goal.  Members of Variety, the Children's Charity, will be presenting a cheque for 250-thousand dollars Wednesday.  It will be used to buy medical equipment for a new nursery area,  and a pediatric outpatient clinic, in the new Polson Tower.
