The City of Vernon has chosen one of its own firefighters to be the new fire chief. Local firefighter and training officer, Keith Green will replace Jeff Carlisle who moved to Kelowna in January, and interim chief Gary McCall. A city news release says Green has risen through the ranks of the Vernon Fire and Rescue Services, bringing 12 years of combined service as a volunteer and career firefighter and has served as the department's training officer since 2009. Green (pictured) says his vision is to meet the needs of a growing and vibrant community. "I am excited to have the opportunity to lead our group of dedicated fire fighters, both career and volunteer and look forward to working with all our stakeholders while continuing to build a strong cohesive team trained to the highest standards." The city's CAO Leon Gous says Green rose to the top from among a highly qualified group of candidates. "He understands the needs of the Vernon Fire and Rescue Services and will continue to build on the achievements of the department. I know that Keith's transition into the post will be advanced by his existing rapport with colleagues and his appreciation of the department initiatives already in place. The City looks forward to working with him." Keith is married to wife, Debra and is father of 8 year-old son, Jacob, and 5 year-old daughter, Tyra. As an involved member of the Vernon community since moving from Richmond, B.C. in 1989, Keith spends his spare time coaching his son's hockey team and local baseball team.
