Ralph Klein silenced by dementia ...

6:19am  Ed Mason  4/8/2011  INews 880AM

Former premier Ralph Klein has been diagnosed with a rare type of dementia and has lost his ability to communicate. The sad news of Ralph Klein's deteriorating health is confirmed by his wife Colleen, who now speaks for the former premier because he can no longer have normal conversations. She tells veteran political reporter Don Braid in Friday's Calgary Herald: "He's not going to talk to the media. He's incapable of that. But I'm talking about it now because I just want the general public to know the man they love has a condition." Weeks before Christmas, Klein's health became the source of media speculation with the former premier confirming he had emphysema which he blamed for starving his brain of oxygen and causing him to forget names of close friends. The diagnosis of dementia was made recently after neurological testing. There is no cure.
