Our objective is to complete the two empty floors of the new tower and increase the number of acute beds at the hospital through a public awareness campaign.
A grassroots campaign to end chronic patient overcrowding at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. |
Description | Vernon Jubilee Hospital's "Tower of Care" is scheduled to open in September 2011. Unfortunately, the Tower will open without any increase in hospital beds or operating rooms. Opening day will be yet another "Code Purple" day at VJH where admitted patients exceed hospital capacity. Patients will continue to backup in the emergency department for hours and days at a time while they desperately wait for a stretcher to become available in a hospital hallway, broom closet, or cast room. We say the status quo is unacceptable. Much of the public is unaware that the Tower of Care is slated to open with two empty "shelled-in" acute care floors and operating rooms set aside for completion at an undetermined future date. We say the time to finish these shelled-in floors and operating rooms is now. We are asking you to wear a purple ribbon to protest continued "Code Purple" at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. We are asking you to contact your local M.L.A. Eric Foster and Minister of Health Michael de Jong to demand that the "shelled-in" floors and operating rooms are finished now. |

Does anyone really expect Foster to stand up and insist that we get more beds in the Vernon hospital. Moreover when is Council going to say anything about the issue instead of worrying about nonsensical matters like water bottles
