Invader Brandishes Knife In Vernon Home Invasion - Police say unknown suspect flees with 70 pound safe

There's been a frightening home invasion in Vernon. The RCMP say a large man wearing a black hoodie and a balaclava kicked in the front door of a residence in the 4000 block of 24th Avenue early Tuesday morning. Corporal Gerry Kovacs says the man brandished a large knife before lifting a 70-pound safe off the floor and fleeing eastbound down the road. However Kovacs says the public has no reason to fear. ``It is believed the person who committed this act is possibly known by the residents and we're confident that it was a targeted attack,'' says Kovacs. The occupants of the home were not hurt. The safe was located a short distance away although Kovacs could not say if it had been opened or what was in it. No suspect has been arrested.
