Vernon's MLA is upset at suggestions he misled Lumby area residents about the prison vote. Some protestors at the recent Liberal convention had signs saying Eric Foster cheated and lied to Area D residents. "I do take exception to being called a liar. I've never lied to anybody. I guess in our country they're entitled to say what they like, but I never lied to anybody and I never cheated anyone."  The protesters claimed Foster said a 70 percent outcome was needed for the province to consider Lumby, but he says that was just his personal opinion, one way or the other.  Foster says Area D residents feel their NO opinion on the facility is not being taken into consideration. "I understand their concerns. Their regional director (Rick Fairbairn) sent me a letter, expressing and supporting their concerns, and I've given that letter to the Solicitor General, and it will be taken into consideration (in the site decision)"  56 percent of Lumby residents backed a prison,  but 66 percent of Area D voted against it in an April 30 referendum.
