The BC government is about to feel more political pressure to fund additional patient care beds at Vernon Jubilee's new patient care tower. City council has publicly endorsed the Purple Ribbon Campaign, begun by doctors and nurses at the hospital who are worried that overcrowded conditions will continue when the tower opens in the fall. Council has vowed to write to Premier Christy Clark, the health minister and the local MLA and MP on the issue. It is calling for a meeting of interested parties in an effort to come up with ways to put even more pressure on the Liberal government. Councillor Bob Spiers is suggesting an on-line petition. Will the pressure work? Councillor Patrick Nicol is convinced of it. ``They have to find these monies,'' stresses Nicol. ``Don't invest and do so many things correctly over the long period that they have and the health district has locally and then just sort of drop the ball at the end.'' Council heard from a delegation of concerned nurses Monday. The nurses plan to take their campaign farther afield, to councils in Sicamous, Salmon Arm, Golden, Revelstoke and Nakusp.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
