Clock Counts Down 100 Days To Opening Of Polson Tower - Patient overcrowding question remains ahead of September date

A clock has been unveiled that is counting down the next 100 days to the opening of Vernon Jubilee Hospital's new patient care building, the Polson tower. The $180-million, state-of-the-art facility opens to patients on September 25th. At a ceremony Friday, Doctor David Arnold, chief of medical staff, welcomed the high-tech facilities but also reminded the politicians present that more beds are needed to alleviate patient overcrowding. ``There are still needs and still barriers to good patient care that need to be addressed ,'' said Arnold. ``The beauty of this new tower is that we have roughed-in most of those solutions. They are ready for us,'' added Arnold, alluding to the two, empty floors at the top of the tower. Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster said he is pushing the health minister to find funding for beds on those floors. He hopes for an answer from the province within the next month.
