Coldstream senior drowns in lake

  A Coldstream man who went overboard died in Sugar Lake Wednesday.  Search and Rescue crews were called to the lake in Cherryville at 12:30 p.m. after a witness on shore reported seeing the lone male’s fishing boat capsize in the water.  Thomas McCadden, 78, of Coldstream was located deceased.  RCMP report a windy and rainy conditions causing choppy waters at the time of the capsizing.  “We had a witness on the far shore from him and she actually saw him go over,” said Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.  Upon arrival, RCMP and Search and Rescue crews spotted an orange life-jacket near the boat and discovered the body.  “It was confirmed, the deceased was wearing a life-jacket,” said Proce.

This is the third water search crews have been called out to in as many weeks. Search and Rescue ontinues to scour Cherry Creek in Cherryville for a 31-year-old Vernon man (last seen May 20) and Shuswap River in Enderby for 17-year-old  Daniel Linz of Enderby (last seen May 27). “They’ve been very diligent,” said Proce of Search and Rescue efforts, which included air crews scouring the two locations earlier this week.  These incidents serve as a reminder for residents to put safety first in and around creeks, rivers and lakes.  “The creeks and rivers are running extremely fast and the lake waters are very cold,” said Proce. “Everyone is reminded to exercise extreme caution around the water at this time of year.”
