Goose Lake Water Advisory

Water from tapGreater Vernon Water is keeping a water quality advisory on for customers who receive Goose Lake reservoir water through the Duteau Creek water supply.  The advisory will be in effect at least until September 15th, through the irrigation season.  Water quality manager Renee Clark says the Goose Lake reservoir is used to balance the system when irrigation demands increase.  "The reservoir is filled by the Duteau Creek supply, but when drawn from the reservoir is only re-chlorinated, and at times exceeds turbidity guidelines of 1 NTU."  Turbidity is a measure of cloudiness in the water.  The water quality is rated as fair. The advisory means young children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems may want to drink boiled or bottled water, instead of what comes right out of the tap.

A name like Goose Lake does not inspire much confidence in terms of quality!
