Kal Water Improvement

A project to ensure water quality on the Kal Lake source could be aided by a government grant. The NORD board has agreed to apply for a ten thousand dollar grant to raise the lake's water intake to reduce sediment impact. Vice chair Rick Fairbairn says the project will cost 15-thousand dollars, and will allow the board to delay costly filtration upgrades as demanded by Interior Health. He says ""they're going to raise it two feet and that'll clean up the water going to the intake"

Duteau Water Advisory Issued Attention: open in a new window.Written by Peter McIntyre Thursday, 16 June 2011 16:45

Duteau Creek Treatment Plant (Kiss FM file Photo)The first water quality advisory in some time has been issued in Greater Vernon.  The North Okanagan Regional District has announced a planned  advisory for Duteau Creek customers, start this Monday, and continuing until June 29.  Engineering GM Arnold Badke says the treatment plant will be shut down for maintenance work, resulting in untreated water.  He tells KISS FM, "It will be raw water out of the reservoir, just like it was last year, and it will be disinfected at the head gates, but it will not go through the water plant."  Badke says the plant work should only take four of five days, but they've given more time in case something comes up. The water will have more colour and turbidity than normal.  The quality will be rated as fair, so young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may want to drink boiled or bottled water.
