Gerald William made a presentation to Spallumcheen and Enderby Councils looking for their support for the incinerator. He has the support from the Splatsin Chief and Council as well as from MP, Colin Mayes. Hansma says the 100 to 200-million dollar incinerator is proposed for a 200 acre property at Salmon River Road and Hullcar near Enderby. Hanson says the project includes green houses and a 100 unit housing project, but to make it work they need to deal with all the garbage from Kelowna to Kamloops and all points in between. Mayor Hansma says they gave preliminary support to allow for a feasibility study. He says the project needs to incinerate all the garbage from the Central and North Okanagan as well as the Shuswap and all the way to Kamloops to generate enough power to meet the needs of the North Okanagan. Hansma says William plans to partner with a Korean company that specializes in these types of projects and is backed by Samsung. Hansma knows the public will be very interested in the environmental aspects, his concerns right now are about increased traffic on area roads. He says the ultimate decision will be at the Regional Board, responsible for solid waste. One consideration might be the life of area landfills, which Hansma says ranges from 10 to 25 years.

This is a joke, right?
Garbage incineration, greenhouses AND a housing project? Sign me up for one of dem hothouses now!
Although to be fair, that might not be a whole lot different than living below the hills where Vernon sprays its liquid waste from April to October...
Yep this could be controversial alright, and sadly, downright funny - Hansma giving preliminary approval for a feasibility study (ahem, who would pay for this?) for a massive infrastructure project/service/development on band land that would actually fall under the regional district's jurisdiction?
Considering Kelowna just spent gazillions upgrading their Glenmore landfill, and other jurisdictions are doing/have done the same... this project is a non-starter in my books.
Samsung is backing some guy in Enderby for an incinerator, greenhouse, and housing unit? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense... Did we find this out through an e-mail from Nigeria?
