Concerns About 'Crappy' Water

The new Duteau Creek treatment plant is being called an ill-conceived project by a local politician. Coldstream councillor Gyula Kiss is frustrated water customers are paying 29 million dollars, and are still getting what he calls "crappy" water, and quality advisories.  He tells the Morning Star people paid to get better water but are not getting it.  Al CotsworthRDNO Utilities manager Al Cotsworth (pictured) admits there's been some problems with the facility.  "The issue is that it's a new plant that's treating very high flows. It's quite a change from the winter operations, and there's some teething problems with it."  Cotsworth says that's led to using alternate water sources which can provide poor quality.  However, he says there's hasn't been a problem with those sources, and the quality advisory is just a precaution. Councillor Kiss says a separate system to provide farmers with untreated water is the answer.
