Twelve people are dead and three are injured after First Air flight 6560 crashed near Resolute Bay in the Canadian Arctic on Saturday, Nunavut RCMP have confirmed. A rescue operation is currently underway with RCMP officers and Canadian Forces members on the ground, and helicopters on site, said Const. Angelique Dignard. There were 11 passengers and four crew members on board the chartered 737 flight travelling from Yellowknife to Resolute Bay, Dignard said. Local RCMP received a call of a downed plane near the Hamlet of Resolute Bay shortly after 1:30 p.m. local time Saturday. The flight list was not immediately available, and the conditions of the injured passengers is not known.First Air, a company that operates flights in the north, is based in the Ottawa area. (more)
