Bailey Road Safety Improvement Project Comes To An End

Work to improve safety at the dangerous Highway 97-Bailey Road intersection south of Vernon has been completed. One major improvement includes an acceleration lane for motorists turning south towards Kelowna.  Left and right-turn lanes on the highway have been extended and rumble strips have been added along Bailey Road. Last year, a flashing beacon and electronic speed signs were installed. The project was started after a number vehicle accidents at that spot and the death of a Kelowna woman in a crash in June of last year. Such was the concern that Vernon city council called on the province to make the improvements. The Transportation Ministry says the $1.8-million project came in on budget and six weeks early.

The upgrade at Bailey Road was perhaps one of the finest construction projects done by a contractor in record time.

Perhaps the City of Vernon could take a lesson from this proeject when it comes to getting something done in a reasonable amount of time and on budget or below.
