Coldstream residents will be voting in a referendum in this November's elections. The question will ask if the District should borrow 1.35 million dollars to construct a new municipal mechanic shop. Administrator Mike Stamhuis says residents will pay an extra 2.6 percent in taxes a year, for at least 20 years, if it passes. He says "If we were to just budget for it in one year, and just, say ok, we're going to spend that one point 3 million right away, that would amount to a much bigger tax increase." Stamhuis says if the referendum fails, it will be up to the new council to decide what to do, including dropping the project, or finding another way to get it done.
