The storm that rolled through the North Okanagan last night left some people in the dark and fire crews busy. BC Hydro says close to 2500 people in Vernon were without power due to about a dozen outages caused by the windstorm and lightning. While most power was restored by 2am, People living on Wellington Drive and Rawlings Lake Road were without power till Thursday morning. Fire Dispatch says there were reports of forest fires on Galiano, Goose Lake, Silver Star and above Stepping Stone Road on Reserve Lands, as well as one in Brookfield Road in Lumby. Some people are dealing with soggy basements in Kelowna this morning. The Kelowna Fire Department responded to 91 incidents that included 10 smoke sightings, 6 wildfires, 22 reports of flooding, 2 marine rescues on Okanagan Lake and a fire in a high rise hotel. The fire at the Delta Grand was quickly brought under control and was started by a laptop on a desk that overheated. Emergency dispatchers in Kelowna answered 400 calls over the four-hour storm. The Kamloops Fire Centre says It could have been much worse. Fire Information Officer Kayla Pepper says there were 25 fires caused by lightning, the majority of which remained at spot size, thanks to the large amount of rain Pepper says of the 25 fires, a total of two hectares burned. The BC Forest Service received hundreds of calls during last night's four hour storm.
