Local beachgoers may have to bring along some extra change soon. Vernon councillor Jack Gilroy doesn't think a two-dollar fee would be too much to ask of people using the City-owned Kal Beach parking lot. He's asked a City official to look into the cost of buying some of the old parking meters taken out of provincial parks. Gilroy says money could go towards installing a pedestrian overpass to avoid the train tracks and roadway. Coldstream is also looking at metered parking at the overcrowded Kalavista boat launch. Councillor Gyula Kiss is hoping a fee would convince some boaters, especially out-of-towners, to head to Kekuli Bay where it's free.

Why when the rest of the province is doing away with paid parking is Coldstream thinking of putting it in? It is because members of the Kalavista Committee who live near the lake are trying to deter people from using these facilities. This backward move is just another ploy to deter tourist from stopping in Coldstream. If they don't like it near the lake perhaps they should move instead of forcing the people that don't live near the lake to pay. The monet they have wasted on faiked boat launch studies and monthly meeting could have easily already paid for a proper parking lot crossing.
