Man Died Trying To Save Friend

The mother of an Okanagan hiking victim says her son died trying to save his friend.Daniel Lovegrove (Facebook)21 year old Daniel Lovegrove of Peachland (photo from Facebook) was hiking with three friends Saturday morning near Cherryville when one man lost his balance and slipped off a trail above Monashee Creek.  Daniel's mother Kerry Lovegrove tells the Kelowna Courier, her son grabbed the man's hand and tried to pull him to safety but the tree he was holding gave way, and the two of them fell down a 200 foot rocky slope. Daniel--who was going into his fourth year of psychology studies at UBC Okanagan next month --died of his injuries, while his 20 year old friend from Kelowna was swept away in the creek. The search for the second man's body continues today. His name has not been released. Kerry Lovegrove says the four people on the trip, which included Daniel's girlfriend, had been good friends for several years, and were experienced campers. She says her son planned to enrol in the RCMP after graduating from university.
