The Regional District of the North Okanagan and Interior Health have
issued a boil water advisory for Kalamalka Lake water users as of
Friday. “As a precaution, all customers who receive Kalamalka
Lake water are now on a boil water notice due to poor water quality
results in the water distribution system,” said RDNO water quality
manager Renee Clark. “There have been a number of total coliform
bacteria counts within the distribution system and, therefore, the
utility is advising customers to exercise caution when using the water.” Clark notes there has been no fecal or E. coli bacteria found in the water. “The disinfection process has been good but possible
bacteria counts may be due to natural processes in Kalamalka Lake,” she
said. “The utility is responding to this issue by increased use of the
Duteau water source and by further monitoring and analysis of the
Kalamalka Lake source.” Residents on the Kalamalka Lake water source are
advised to boil all water for consumption purposes, including drinking,
washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, and brushing
teeth. Customers will be notified as conditions change. For updates, visit the RDNO website at
www.rdno.ca.

Poor
Boil Water Notice
Used in situations in which the public health threat posed by the
drinking water supply system is significant and the nature of the threat
is one that can be effectively addressed through boiling of the water.
In this situation, RDNO-GVW and IHA recommend that ALL customers drink
boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. Water intended
for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or
brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

Nothing wrong with Kal water....the lake is only under constant threat from a multitude of potentially polluting sources like cattle upstream on Coldstream Creek, bad manure management practices, spray effluent, leaching refuse dump, biosolids plant drainage, ski resort with questionable sewage handling processes, leaky septic systems not to mention the geese, dogs and uncontrolled storm drainage. I'm glad this advisory to boil came from "natural causes".
living here my whole life, i can't remember the last time practically the whole city was on boil water advisory. too many people moving into the valley and not enough infrastructure means we are completely destroying the area. building on commanage, that ugly eyesore 'the view' DISGUSTING. this valley is going to hell in a handbasket but quick. stop the growth and work with what we have!! this water problem is a serious shout out to us that we are doing wrong. damn people are stupid.
