A 45-year-old man is facing charges including dangerous driving,
assault with a weapon and impaired driving after allegedly trying to run
over an RCMP traffic officer in Pemberton. Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair says that just after noon on Tuesday, police
were advised of a driver who was possibly impaired and behaving
erratically on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. He says an officer located the vehicle and stopped the driver, who fled
and immediately did a U-turn before driving straight back at the
Mountie. LeClair says the officer was forced to run toward the curb, but was not injured. He says the driver then drove off in a dangerous manner and was later
arrested in nearby Whistler after a minor motor vehicle crash, which did
not result in any injuries. Louis Marcel Robert has been detained in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday.

My heart goes out to families whose loved ones are in the service, at the start of every shift you don't know if you will see your loved one alive or as the whole person they were.
It's a highly unstable work environment.
What if the officer had been struck?
If the officer was lucky at least one person would stop to control traffic, one person with first-aid skills would attend the downed officer, one person would have a charged cell phone with reception to call for help etc.
To the best of my recollection WCB/WorkSafe regs were changed after a lone parks employee was assaulted in a Kamloops park. Here are the regs. Are RCMP excempt?
