Free Transit, Parking

People will be able to park at no charge, for some upcoming events in downtown Vernon, but it will reduce the cash flow into City Hall. Council has agreed to Downtown Vernon Association requests for free parking and transit for the Christmas Traditions Festival  November 25th, and for free parking every Saturday from November 26th to December 24th.  Councillor Shawn Lee supports the move, but says it comes with a cost.  "The reason the approval got delayed on that was just that I always want to make sure we understand what income we're forgoing on those kinds of things." Staff say the transit and parking revenue forgone will be around 11-thousand-six hundred dollars, including $1,816 for each of the free parking Saturdays, and $2,519 for the November 25th event.

I thought all along the jest of revitalizing the down town core was to draw people down town - the Mall and Wal Mart and the Super Store and Canadian Tire don't charge for parking --
Have a Heart give back to the merchants of the downtown core without grumbling - they struggle all year long - I wonder If I well see City Council shopping downtown this Christmas -- buy local keep the coin in this town !!
