Money For Nothing?

RDNO officeNorth Okanagan municipalities are getting a shopping list together for some provincial money. Spallumcheen mayor Will Hansma says there's literally millions of dollars in gas tax rebate money available, and all jurisdictions in the RDNO are putting together a list. "We have to have that to the regional district before the end of September, so we're going to sit down with the council and go over a number of options that might be significant enough for the region to spend those tax dollars on."  There are rules on how the money can be spent, such as it can't be for only one municipality,  and it would have to be significant for the whole region.  Hansma says the project would have to enhance economic activity, or conservation.  "We could put it all towards a solid waste management plan, or a transit or rail system." Hansma says it could be quite an amount of money, he thinks the regional share is four million, with the possibility of matching grant money from senior governments.
