The North Okanagan-Shuswap school
board has set an example it may hope that teachers and other employees
take. They have decided not to increase their pay this year. Vice-Chair
Chris Coers says the province has already set a zero mandate in contract
negotiations with teachers and CUPE workers. ``Considering the
provincial tone, there were folks who decided maybe we should go
with zero and we went with zero,'' says Coers. The board reviews
trustees' pay every September. A 1.7 percent increase had
been recommended.

Wow, common sense actually is still alive and well, in at least one area of BC.
