NDP members of Vernon-Monashee selected Mark Olsen to represent the NDP in the next provincial election. Olsen was the NDP candidate in the 2009 election where he finished second. "We're back, and we are going to build on that momentum. We are going to make some changes here in the Okanagan", stated Olsen in his acceptance speech. Nikki Inouye, the federal NDP candidate in the May 2011 election, challenged but finished with the silver. "We will work together, and we will win this riding in 2013," she declared after the ballots were counted.Seventy-three members turned out for the election. However, the final count of the election was not announced.
