O'Keefe RanchThe O'Keefe Ranch had a summer much like many other tourist attractions.  General manager Catherine Lord says they saw about 15 percent fewer visitors which she feels was due to the wet start of the summer, and the economy keeping people at home.  She tells KISS FM, "Both local and global. The Americans are just not coming up here." She says it creates more uncertain times for the city of Vernon owned heritage site.  "I think until the world and local economies pick up, it's going to be a struggle." Lord says they've had some success getting more locals to visit, using new ideas like murder-mysteries and fashion shows. "That's what we're trying to do, get more visits from the locals." The disappointing numbers for 2011 came after an upbeat 2010 where Lord told city council they had 1,500 more visitors than in 2009, for a total of 16,800.

These numbers do not justify the hugh subsidy that Vernon makes. Thanks to some Vernon politicians the rest of the area does not contribute. Time to get rid of the politicians and get some that know what is "fair and reasonable"
