The Peace Officers’ Memorial Ribbon Society, in partnership with the University of Calgary and the RCMP, presented their first Memorial Ribbon Scholarship to Kevin Minguy at the Vernon RCMP detachment on Saturday. Kevin is the eldest of two children who grew up without a ‘dad’ when his father died in 2005 while on duty in Vernon.  This is the first time the scholarship has been awarded by the Society and they anticipate this will open the door to many more from the children of ‘fallen heroes’.  He plans on attending University of Calgary to get his bachelor of arts and study political science. “The Memorial Ribbon Scholarship is a great program, and opens up doors financially for families.  It is really nice getting school paid for.  My father would be proud,” says Minguy. The Scholarship is worth $50,000 over four years. The University of Calgary will be awarding tuition while the Society will be awarding the funding for any books required. “I would like to thank the Blue Ribbon Society, University of Calgary and my Mom as well.”
