LOCAL BUSINESSMAN TO RUN FOR VERNON CITY COUNCIL

NEWS RELEASE  07 October, 2011
VERNON— Scott Anderson (52), announced today that he will run for the position of City Councillor for the City of Vernon.  He turned in his nomination papers on Friday.

Scott Anderson is a long-time Vernon resident, business owner, free-lance writer, and Officer in the Canadian Forces Reserves. He has served as a Reform Party Campaign Manager in two federal elections and as Legislative Assistant for a Reform Party Member of Parliament.

"I've lived here for a long time and I'm exited to have a chance to give back to the city," said Anderson. "I want to help bring citizen input to Vernon City Hall. There’s a growing perception that City Hall is bureaucracy-driven rather than citizen-driven."

Anderson loves living in Vernon and plans to live here after retirement, assuming he ever decides to retire. What he dislikes are over-taxation, bloated bureaucracy, and costly Utopian projects. The three main issues he wants to advance are: input from the citizens of Vernon, creating a business friendly environment, and lower property taxes.

"The recent issue of the "road diet" on 43rd Avenue is a good example of projects put forward without adequate citizen input," said Anderson.   The plan itself is founded on what seem to me to be questionable assumptions, but what is far more disturbing is the fact that the business owners most affected by the project seem to have had little or no say in the matter."  He continued, "It's not enough just to schedule a meeting and hope people show up.  If I'm elected, I'll make a point of proactively looking for feedback from the people most impacted."

Anderson has an Honours Degree (First Class) in Political Studies from the University of Manitoba and owns two small businesses, one local and one that serves North America, Europe, and Australia.  He lives with his spouse Linda, his 15 year-old daughter Fiona, and a dog named Breagh (Bree-yah) in a small Victorian-style house near Kin Beach.  He has one grown son, Luke.
