New name for planning group

A group focused on long-term planning in Greater Vernon has gone through a name change.  The North Okanagan Natural Areas Preservation Committee will now be known as the Preservation of Open Space and Natural Areas Committee.  “POSNA’s mandate is to ensure that development applications at the local, regional and provincial levels of government that may be harmful to natural areas are identified quickly,” said Rod Drennan, spokesperson.  “This early intervention and evaluation will be done so that citizen action can be initiated if it is required.”  A name change was initiated so there would be no confusion with North Okanagan Natural Areas Trust.  POSNA’s primary interest is Vernon, Coldstream and the two adjacent electoral areas.  “This committee will report regularly or as often as necessary to the North Okanagan Naturalists Club,” said Drennan of POSNA’s parent body.  For further information on POSNA, call 250-545-4999 or e-mail rdrennan@shaw.ca.
